We’ve moved – from Hanmer Springs to Nelson. From the church manse to our own home in the city where Bronwen was raised, where we got married 41 years ago, where I pastored the City Baptist Church as an interim minister on two occasions, and where I can assume a degree of anonymity.Â
The most frustrating part of moving was watching volunteers load and unload the trucks and being told not to help. Frustrating because I do not feel like an invalid!Â
It was wonderful to have our son, Simeon, over from Canberra for a week to help with the moving, but he also kept insisting on lifting heavy boxes instead of me doing it. To prove that I am not yet totally decrepit Simeon and I both managed to complete 9 holes of golf at the nearby beautiful Wahi Taakaro Golf course on Friday afternoon and I beat him by 1 shot. Neither of us have played golf for more than a year so we both felt pretty good about our scores. It was a walk down memory lane. We used to play at the course regularly when he was a teenager.
Although we are surrounded by boxes, we are hopeful we will feel settled very quickly. Our first job will be to re-model the kitchen, bathroom, toilet and laundry areas to make them more serviceable.
